Happy Birthday REEKADO BANKS | 22 THINGS YOU DONT KNOW ABOUT HIM

Today marks the 22 birthday of talented singer Reekado
Banks.
Here are 22 facts you probably didn’t know about the
‘Katapot’ singer…
1. His real name is Ayoleyi Hananiel Solomon.
2. He was born on December 6, 1993 in Lagos. He is the last
born in a family of six kids.
3. His father is a pastor while his mum is a caterer who also
devouts time to the church.
4. He grew up in Ikorodu, an outskirt of Lagos.
5. He completed Secondary school in 2008 at the age of 14.
6. His elder sister is a gospel singer.
7. He also has an elder brother, Temi who a producer. The
brother introduced him to music and is instrumental to
Reekado’s later signing unto Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records.
8. Before joining Mavin, Reekado was known as Spicy.
9. He initially started out by writing rap songs before Temi
encouraged him to focus more on singing which was his
strong side.
0. His stage name Reekado Banks was inspired by the Spanish
name ‘Ricardo’ which means ‘Ruler of Kings’ while the
‘Banks’ according to the singer ‘literally means that I’m rich
in musical content’.
1. Without Reekado’s knowledge, his elder brother entered
him for the Mavin talent search competition which had over
5,000 entries. The singer later got picked after scaling
through auditions.
2. He was unveiled as a Mavin act in February 2014 alongside
Korede Bello and Di’ja. They are also referred to as the
Mavin 2.0.
3. He dropped his first official single as a Mavin act in
February, 2014. It is titled ‘Turn it up’.
4. He was named the Headies ‘Rookie of the Year’ in 2014.
5. Also in 2014, Reekado graduated from the University of
Lagos at the age of 21.
6. He graduated with a degree in History and Strategic Studies.
7. He has so far dropped 6 songs under Mavin Records. These
are (Turn it up, Chop am, Katapot, Corner, Sugar Baby and
Tomorrow).
8. He has also worked on other Mavin collaborative tracks like
‘Dorobucci’, ‘Adaobi’, ‘Looku Looku’ and’Arise’.
9. Reekado is also a very good song writer. He contributed to
the writing of Tiwa Savage’s ‘My Darling’ as well as Pasuma’s
‘Ife’ which also features Tiwa Savage.
0. The singer however isn’t planning to abandon music for
song writing ‘because the shows obviously brings more
money than writing songs.’
1. Earlier this year, Reekado and Tiwa made a cover of
Rihanna’s ‘BBHMM’ which was well accepted by fans and critics..
